he most interesting feature of electric motorcycles is their instant torque delivery. However, we are aware of the power issues of some electric motorcycles. This is because electric motorcycles find it difficult to maintain peak power for long periods of time due to limitations such as heat dissipation.

Simply put, electric motorcycles have a much shorter range than their internal combustion engine counterparts. That is why, after acceleration modes, the performance and maximum speed of some electric motorcycles drop sharply. This is a safety mechanism that protects the electrical systems of an electric motorcycle from overheating and rapid battery discharge.

Verge TS Ultra from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds tells us something

The manufacturer claims a power output of 200 horsepower, making this motorcycle a real find for buyers. The torque is 885 pound-feet. Its impressive performance, combined with its light weight, gives this electric motorcycle the best power-to-weight ratio, which is unmatched among other battery-powered motorcycles. But we know that the biggest enemy of a high-powered electric motorcycle is the weight of its battery. And to improve manoeuvrability, more cells are needed, which makes the battery more cumbersome. However, Verge has managed to achieve a reasonable and bold balance between power, manoeuvrability and weight.

This balance has also helped to increase the range, which is a big plus for this bike. The result of all these modifications is acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and, unfortunately, a limited top speed of 124 mph. Yes, the top speed is extremely low for a 200 horsepower motorcycle. But we must remember the power loss among electric vehicles. And the manufacturer, Verge, had to make this compromise for stable performance and better range at speeds over 100 mph.

The unique formula applied by Verge gives us an electric motorcycle with high power and torque, thanks to its radical power plant. Unlike ‘conventional’ electric motorcycles, the TS Ultra has an electric motor built into the rear wheel. This futuristic technology has a complex design that eliminates many connecting components, such as belts or chain drives, which in turn lead to a loss of motorcycle performance.

The power unit design features electromagnets on both sides of the inner rear wheel, which repel each other when an electric current passes through the housing. This system works similarly to the magnetic cushion on high-speed trains. In other words, it is a direct drive system with minimal or no loss of performance due to the interaction between the wheel and the motor.

TS Ultra is not only about a large battery but also convenient charging

The Verge TS Ultra is equipped with one of the largest batteries on the electric bike market: a 21.8 kWh lithium-ion unit. This battery was made possible by freeing up space under the ‘normal’ battery mount. This allowed the TS Ultra to achieve a maximum range of 233 miles in the city. On the highway, the manufacturer's stated range drops to 134 miles. Verge has also made efforts to ensure that the ‘range notification’ is not relevant and does not cause concern.

The TS Ultra electric motorcycle has fast charging capability, charging up to 80% in 25 minutes using a CCS Combo connector and a fast DC charger. Charging at home takes up to five hours, which is not that long. The smart integration of the Tesla North American Charging Standard (NACS) port will also make life easier for potential TS Ultra owners. This will allow charging from Tesla charging ports around the world, which is a good option for this 200-horsepower electric motorcycle.

The best layout for such a powerful motorcycle

TS Ultra components are made of lightweight materials, which helps maximise speed and manoeuvrability. The electric motorcycle frame is a lightweight aluminium monocoque, which houses the battery pack and, thanks to its correct balancing, contributes to stability and rigidity. The electric bike's suspension is equipped with high-quality components from Wilbers or Ohlins. You can choose either of these when ordering. Standard forks for such bikes are installed at the front, and a monoshock at the rear; both are fully adjustable.

The braking system is equipped with dual Brembo Stylema calipers connected to 320 mm discs at the front. A single caliper is installed at the rear, connected to a unique 380 mm peripheral disc. The rear tyre is 240 mm wide, the widest among production motorcycles today. This tyre is as thick as the rear tyre on the Triumph Rocket 3 Storm motorcycle.

Also, since the bike has no mechanical components (chains, belts, gears), it requires almost no maintenance. You won't have to spend money on transmission oils or coolants. And wireless synchronization ensures constant software updates without your involvement.

Radical futuristic design

The TS Ultra looks very cool thanks to its Tron-style design. The rear wheel without a disc significantly contributes to its appeal. On closer inspection, especially from the side, the design embodies the contours of a powerful cruiser, with a high and wide handlebar and slightly rearward footrests. The increased wheelbase also adds to its appeal. You would not be wrong to call this motorcycle a worthy electric competitor to the exotic Ducati Diavel V4.

A notable visual feature of the TS Ultra is its sharp and muscular appearance thanks to enlarged, non-smooth body panels, including a pseudo-fuel tank. The headlights consist of two LEDs located one above the other, giving the front of the motorcycle a distinctive look. The new TS Ultra is available in seven colours, with both glossy and matte finishes. When ordering, you can also choose from three types of seat upholstery.

Technological features at the highest level

The TS Ultra motorcycle is equipped with a host of technological features. It has two TFT displays: one on the tank (a large 8-inch vertical touchscreen display) and the other located between the handlebars in the standard position. The central display is a vertical screen used to access features such as ride control and modes, as well as auxiliary functions such as traction control, cruise control, ABS settings and four ride modes (Range, Zen, Beast and Custom). Comfort and driver assistance come with features such as heated grips, a rear-view camera and blind spot assistance, to name a few. This electric motorcycle also has a hidden storage compartment under the seat with a USB-C port.

As part of the 2024 model update, a new enlarged display has been added, integrated into the steering wheel in the standard location. It features a large set of TS Ultra electronic functions called ‘Starmatter’. This package contains the latest set of features, including artificial intelligence integration to assist with driver control and coordination. The software is operated via a touchscreen display, artificial intelligence and a human-machine interface, creating a personalised interactive experience between the electric motorcycle and the driver.

The TS Ultra also features the Starmatter Vision system, consisting of six cameras mounted around the motorcycle for 360-degree visibility. Combined with front and rear radars, today's most powerful electric motorcycle also features collision warning and lane change assistance. With such a set of top-of-the-line features, the appearance of ARAS in a future update would be a logical step for the company.

Verge TS Ultra price formation. Let's take a look at each component

The Verge TS Ultra is one of the most expensive electric motorcycles in the world, and let's not forget that it is also one of the most powerful, going from 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds. Let's take a look at what makes it so expensive. We will analyse each factor that affects the price.

Innovative engine

The main feature of this bike is the engine built into the rear wheel. We understand that this technology eliminates the need for chains, belts or gears.

And since there are fewer parts, reliability is higher. But developing such a system required millions in investment, which the company naturally wants to recoup with a profit.

Powerful battery

We have a 1200 Wh battery on board that provides up to 400 km on a single charge, which is not a small range. The battery layout uses premium cells (as in Tesla), which require a good cooling system. So such a battery ‘eats up’ 30-40% of the cost of an electric motorcycle.

Premium materials

The frame is made of aviation aluminium and carbon fibre. This gives the bike strength without extra weight and a stylish design that sets the TS Ultra apart from its competitors. As we know, the production of such materials is expensive.

Exclusive technologies

This electric motorcycle has innovative magnetic drives. The technology is not new, but it is new for motorcycles. Add wireless updates (software improves performance), which is also a development that is included for continuous software correction.

Conclusion: Is the TS Ultra worth the money?

If you are looking for the best high-tech bike, then yes. It is for those who value:

  • - Innovation
  • - Durability
  • - Exclusivity

If you just need a means of transport, you can find cheaper alternatives.

Interesting fact: The manufacturer offers a 10-year warranty on the motor. That's confidence in quality!
